Founded by Mark Neale in 1997; From a single outlet store, Mountain Warehouse now operates over 330 locations across the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand, and North America.
Mountain Warehouse was established in 1997 as the retail partner of Karrimor International, a UK-based manufacturer of outdoor clothing and equipment. Karrimor’s primary investor was the investment firm 21 Invest, which is now called Investindustrial.
In February 1999, 21 Invest sold Karrimor’s core business to the South African leisure group Cullinan Holdings. Mountain Warehouse became the new name for the stores, which were previously known as Karrimor. Mountain Warehouse began selling its own brand of clothing as well as multi-brand outdoor gear and clothing under its new name.
